Risk On, Risk Off.

Being financially aware is one important aspect of life. Like it or not, money is critical to your everyday life. Try getting through a week without buying anything or using anything you have bought. No transport. No food. And no clothes.

You can’t even do a zoom call for work. It wouldn’t be right using the electricity, even if it’s just a little amount. Because it all needs to be paid for with money.

So call your mortgage broker and your financial advisor and assess these higher rates and what you can do about them today. Play out some scenarios. Pay an early repayment charge if it makes financial sense so you can lock into a lower rate today, rather than a 3% higher rate next May.

Unless something breaks and threatens to pull down the entire financial system, we may be looking at a 5% base rate for 5 years or more.

Learn about finances for the next three months. What you learn may save you £75,000 over the next 5 years. Isn’t that worth spending 5 hours on this weekend?

Take Stock

What have you got? Have you stopped to take stock? Is it your health? Wealth? Relationships? Is it a particular skill, career, or lifestyle?

Sometimes it is good to stop for 5 minutes and remind ourselves how good we have it. This is especially important if we’re ploughing through some really difficult moments.

Making Mistakes

You made a mistake recently. You and I both know it. It was an actual mistake that you wish you hadn’t made. Now you have a choice in that you can just let it go and move on or you can acknowledge it. You may even feel the desire to apologise for the mistake or it’s impact.

Now I’m not talking about a well-considered choice you made and now regret, like how you voted, a date you went on or a poor restaurant choice. I’m referring to an actual mistake, “an act or judgement that is misguided or wrong.”

Maybe you turned left instead of continuing straight on ahead. Or maybe you called your friend Dave, when his name is Jim. Ooops!

How you respond generally depends on the circumstances. Did you notice the mistake or did someone have to point it out? Was it worth interrupting the flow of the situation or not. Would it be appropriate or helpful if you acknowledged it or even apologised for error?

These things are usually fluid and different people have different points of view, at different times and in different circumstances, and depending on how they feel, are impacted, their intent and which outcome they were looking for.

Do what you think is best for the greater good in that moment. Then move on. Bygones.

Try Something Different

Pygmalion has a soft spot in my heart. Probably since I read the play in my teens after finding my Mom’s Secondary School copy in the house.

So a few weeks ago I saw that a production was playing at a local theatre in Hampton Hill and I booked tickets for the family.

It was a Wednesday night and finished late but I wanted to take my wife and kids to it. So that’s what happened.

Despite some initial reluctance, it all went well. It was a very enjoyable performance!

It’s on for a few more nights. Get tickets here. https://www.hamptonhilltheatre.org.uk/production/pygmalion

The theme relates very well to my #1 bestselling book Achieve Anything. Perhaps that’s another reason why I like it!

Try something different. Your world might shift.

Fix Your Mortgage Today!

Imagine paying £20k/$20k more interest in 2023 than you did in 2022!! This can happen if you haven’t been paying attention or don’t take immediate action.

Many mortgage rates have gone up 3% over the past 12 months. So with a £700,000 mortgage, on a £1 million house, you will pay £21,000 more interest next year. Your rates may have gone from 2% to 5% or £14,000 per annum to £35,000 per annum.

Now if you fixed that for five years, that would be £105,000 less in your pocket and more in your bank’s pocket. Yikes! I bet you could have had nice plans for that kind of money.

You can’t do anything about the rate changes up until now. However, if rates go up 3% more by summer next year, but you lock in now, you could save yourself a further £21,000 per year and £105,0000 over five years. You know it makes sense!!

Get your pen and paper out. Call your bank or broker and run the numbers. Get a fixed rate if it makes sense. This time next year you’ll be so glad you did. Do it now!
