Skiing And Snowboarding

Skiing and snowboarding are enjoyed by just 135 million people in the world. That’s only 1.7% of the global population.

If you’ve never tried it, consider it. It’s exercise in the fresh air with gorgeous scenery and it’s a lot of fun!

Exhaustion

Sometimes we play too hard. Sometimes we work too hard. Be careful when exhaustion strikes.

The Thrill And Pride Of Being English Champion

My son, Ryker, won his England Hockey T2 Cup final on Sunday 3rd April. In a thrilling match in Reading, they played against a challenging side from Alderley Edge, based south of Manchester.

It was exciting to watch. There was constant pressure and some end to end break outs which threatened to adjust the nil nil score line. A fortunate short corner goal later in the first half put our Teddington boys up 1-0 going into half time.

A couple of quicker goals after the half put the score to 3-0 but the lads from Alderley Edge answered with one of their own which really energised them. It was very tense from that moment with many chances at both ends.

The final whistle brought relief as the score remained 3-1 and the thrill of winning the final enveloped the team. That thrill of winning is so palpable. A mix of excitement, relief, pride and exhilaration are a heady brew.

Whether it is for a country level final or a pick up game with friends, winning is a nice feeling. As a parent, I am delighted for him and proud of how hard he has worked to be a worthy member of the team. I was also proud of the whole team, and their coaches, for their teamwork and sportsmanship.

The thrill and pride that come with winning are very personal. How we display these can elicit some strong opinions. Enjoy the moment though for it may be a long time coming again, if ever. Enjoy.

Make Hay While The Sun Shines

Growing up on a farm, this made a lot of sense. You had to work on sunny days. Now that I am no longer on a farm, this means something a little different to me.

It means work while you can. Work while you have the health and ability. While conditions are good, make the most of them.

Because on actual sunny days, I like to watch my kids play, stroll with my wife, go for a run, or have a siesta under a shady tree. Sometimes even drink a cold beverage.

Words and phrases can mean different things to different people or even the same people but in different circumstances.

Do the work, or go and play, while you can.

Enjoy Lovely Days

Sunshine, warming air, boys playing rugby 7s, a cool pale ale in hand, friends to chat, cheer and laugh with and the time on a weekday to do it. This was the wonderful recipe we had on Monday.

What would make a lovely day for you?

Can you create the circumstances or environment to have one soon?

Appreciate all 365 days each year and particularly the lovely ones.

Taste Or Waist?

Do you prefer to satisfy your taste or manage your waist? What’s more important to you? If I look, I will be able to see which you prefer.

There may not be a right or wrong. However, if you want one but focus on the other, happiness will elude you.

If you let yourself drift along, it will be harder for you. Being determined, committed and following through will give you a feeling of having a super power. You will love it!

Think of sugar as poison. Eating poison, or items with poison in them, would be terrible for you. Stop thinking sugary items are a treat. They are more of a threat to your health.

Focus on your waist but allow moments of taste to be fully enjoyed. Enjoy and even savour the taste of all food and drink you consume. Linger on it. Enjoy!

Keep Your Chin Up

Life is going to knock you back. It will hit you harder than you expect. And you are likely to notice when you are least expecting it.

Regardless of the challenge ahead, keep your chin up. Be confident. Smile. Laugh in the face of adversity. You’ve made it though everything in life so far. You will get through so much more.

The hardest part can be to not lose your head when it could be so easy to. Be mindful of where your thoughts are leading. Green lights are good. Amber is a warning to adjust now. Red is a concern and the energy needs to be redirected.

The greatest skill you’ll ever learn is how to keep your chin up. Practice today.
