Keep Your Chin Up
Life is going to knock you back. It will hit you harder than you expect. And you are likely to notice when you are least expecting it.
Regardless of the challenge ahead, keep your chin up. Be confident. Smile. Laugh in the face of adversity. You’ve made it though everything in life so far. You will get through so much more.
The hardest part can be to not lose your head when it could be so easy to. Be mindful of where your thoughts are leading. Green lights are good. Amber is a warning to adjust now. Red is a concern and the energy needs to be redirected.
The greatest skill you’ll ever learn is how to keep your chin up. Practice today.
Wake Up At The Same Time
Aim to go to bed at the same time each night. And definitely keep your alarm set for the same time each day.
Consistency has value. The value comes to both the body and mind.
Do this every day for this week. Then tell me how good it’s felt.
What Makes A Wonderful Day?
Sunshine? Warmth? Health? Family? Friends? A purpose? Winning at something? A kind word said to you? Kind action from another person? A flower? Good news? A phone call from an old friend? Completing a task? A cease fire? A peace treaty? A favourite song?
You don’t need 24 full hours of wonderful to declare, and feel, it’s a wonderful day. It can be one simple thing.
I had a wonderful day today. Gorgeous sunshine. Warmth from the sun. Blue skies. Freedom. Confidence in our institutions and law. Coaching and watching my son’s rugby ? team. He scored a try and played very well.
Then I went to watch my other son play field hockey. He scored a goal and helped his team to victory in the England Hockey quarterfinals. On to the semis!
There have been other lovely moments today too. But those really made it wonderful. Being healthy and able to enjoy children having fun, with some competitive tension, can make one blissful.
My wish for you is many, many wonderful days in your life. Keep it simple, observe and enjoy.
Do The Russians Love Their Children Too?
Great question paraphrased from the song Russians from the 1985 album by Sting.
37 years later, it is more relevant than any time since. La plus ça change…..
What Do You Love About Life?
Serious question. Have you ever even thought about it? What is it that makes you crazy delighted about being alive?
Spend 10 minutes now writing some ideas down.
These are the things you’ll really miss when you’re gone, or they are. Start giving these the daily appreciation they deserve.
Canadian Truckers and The UK
As a Canadian, I am pleased to see the trucker protest in Ottawa and elsewhere being held, generally, in a good natured, peaceful way. These are unlikely protestors and there would be few, if any, professional activists among their cohort.
Of course, with any large gathering, there will be a few things that go sideways and a few people who do things that both sides would prefer didn’t happen. But rather than look at the sample size of one, or two, lets look at the vast majority and the positives.
It’s peaceful. It’s almost joyous in its nature. There are lots of smiles and hugs, dances and good manners and even well spoken leaders calling for continued calm. Bear in mind it is mid-winter in Ottawa and temperatures sink to -20C (-4F) at night and might only climb to -6C (21F) during the day.
There doesn’t seem to be looting, rioting or arson, which makes it a much better experience for all affected. They are on point. They are there to be heard.
The UK has dropped the mask requirements, along with a growing number of other OECD nations. Serious Covid infections are now about 0.1% of all cases, despite cases being almost 5 times higher than this time last year. This is all good news going forward.
According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS) in the UK, Covid deaths here are starting to approximate those of the flu and pneumonia. If we could live with their annual deaths and challenges for decades, perhaps it is time to make this a win for the people over Covid everywhere.
I entered a shop without a mask this past weekend. It felt so natural and so good. And those that wanted to wear a mask did. And we all shopped and went on our way. No issues. But having that choice felt so good, after two long years. I missed that great, natural feeling. It’s so good to have it back.
After A Great Day, Rest
You’ve worked hard, made some progress and, in general, things are pretty good.
At that point, have your rest, without further thought.
Feeling A Little Behind
It’s ok to be behind schedule sometimes. There are many different reasons why that can happen. Occasionally we take on too much. Other times events conspire against us. Still other situations involve more learning than expected, which takes time.
I’m feeling about a month behind on my book launch and a few other things. Despite many very long days, I’m still adding more to the list each day than I remove. But at least I’m moving forward in many fronts.
I know it’s a blip. Sometimes unique events warrant exceptional effort. This is one of those times for me. We all have these at some point. The week before going on holiday is a great example.
So, if I’ve not replied or I’ve gone quiet, it’s just a matter of a crazy number of things to get done and not enough me’s or hours in a day to address all of them satisfactorily.
I’ll keep aiming to get on top of things into February. When you’re feeling a little behind, keep pressing forward but give yourself some slack. Rest. Just don’t stop.
As Good As It Gets
Maybe it is. Perhaps this is it.
Not in the general but maybe in the specifics.
If a fabulous moment or memory is the top echelon, what else are we looking for? Perhaps we need to be more appreciative and grateful for these minutes and moments we get. Hold on to them fiercely and replay them often in your mind.
Savour every moment of joy. Each one is delicious.
