Who Sets Your Pace?

What tempo do you move at? Are you getting things done like a person possessed or are you chilling like there is all the time in the world?

Once again, this can be heavily influenced by the 5 people you spend the most time with. If you are working with people who are action takers and getting things done quickly, you’ll probably start doing the same. If you are surrounded by people who sit on the park bench watching the world go by, you’ll probably find yourself there ever more frequently.

And if you think you have no further capacity to do more, you may be wrong. Consider Roger Bannister who came fourth in the Olympics in 1952 for the 1500 meters. Then, using top pacers in 1954, he became the first person to break the 4 minute mile at 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds.

Who sets your pace?

Consider The Data Presented

Always test the underlying information. Trust but verify is a useful phrase. Look at things from both sides or all angles. Take the emotion out of it. If you can find better context, use it. We will be better off. Consider the data presented.

Change Yourself First

Then you can change the world. If we all tried to be better people individually, we would be better as a group through natural consequence.

If you’re trying to change someone, you’re unlikely to do it. Only the subject person will make the change happen. Berating someone or belittling them won’t do it. It often has the opposite effect. You can lead a horse to water…. Even make it look nice and dress it up. But you can’t force someone, or a horse, to take a sip.

Change yourself first. And if you have time left on the clock, then help others. Rather than force them.

Use Affirmations Frequently

Yes you might feel uncomfortable doing this. You might even cringe a little just thinking about it. But really, you probably do negative affirmations all the time. You might say, ‘I am so stupid’, ‘I am an idiot’ or even ‘I am terrible with money’.

Think about that. You are willing to say pretty rough stuff to yourself but cringe when thinking about saying something nice. And the nice stuff is probably more accurate on the whole too!

Try saying, ‘I am a very good person’ or ‘I am pretty fit’ or even, ‘I am quite good with several financial aspects’.

Those aren’t so cringeworthy. They are simply stating how it is, fairly accurately.

So think of 5-10 ‘I am’ phrases you’re comfortable saying and start saying them to yourself every 30 minutes. Brainwash yourself. Love bomb yourself. And don’t just say them. Feel them when you say them. Stand straight and tall. Smile. Be proud of who you are in the moment.

After a few weeks of half-hourly affirmations, you’ll have convinced yourself about how good you really are. Then you are on your way to being Unstoppable. You will be able to achieve anything.

Use affirmations frequently.

You Win just Trying

Trying, practicing and training all require effort. It is these efforts that turn you into a winner; a person who wins. You won’t always have a bestseller, blockbuster or championship trophy but you will have developed the discipline, focus and confidence to try it again.

You win as a person each time you put effort in and try. Love the process.

Be Attractive

Attract friends, money, jobs, opportunities and partners. There is less need to pursue if you have the higher ability to attract.

In order to attract, one needs to be attractive. Have a shining, delightful personality. Be gracious and determined. Be your best in both mind and body. Demonstrate you can take care of your things so others will trust you with theirs. Their body, mind, heart and soul.

If we are a great steward of money and efficient with our time, it will attract more money and opportunities.

Be respectful, accountable and empathetic.

If we can be attractive, we will attract. Work on it.

Punctuality Is Good

Respecting your time and the time of others is a good attribute to have. When you are late, it signals to the other person that you do not respect their time. Most people are not that pleased with this signal. Although a few people will be happy when you are running late. This is especially true when they are running late themselves.

Showing up early demonstrates you are in control of your time. It allows you time to park, register or prepare. It also signals that you are mature and respectful of the time of others.

This characteristic can buy a lot of goodwill. It is a good one to have. Certainly it is one to work on if you are not demonstrating it consistently.

No need to make a reason or excuse. The evidence is there. Best not to make it a habit. Exceptional circumstances only, outside of your control, is a good rule to live by. Communicate the timing expectations as soon as adversity is encountered. This can also ease the tension at the other end.

Avoid Or Attack The Day

Are you pulling the duvet over your head most days? Too often and you may consider that you are avoiding the day. If so, ask yourself why. There is often a simple reason. Sometimes it’s a conversation that’s needed that will be uncomfortable. Other times it could be a project that requires a tough decision or elements you don’t enjoy doing.

Regardless, see if you can flip the ‘avoid’ into ‘attack’. Identify the element that is keeping you under the duvet and launch into the day deciding you will confront that element and resolve it today.

Make a plan with some specific times and parameters. You will get up at x time. You will work on this specific issue from y to z time. Then you can put it behind you. That is how you shift from Uncomfortable to Unstoppable.

……

My new book Achieve Anything – The 7 Simple Steps to Shift from Uncomfortable to Unstoppable is in typesetting. Launch date is going to be in late November or early December in time for Christmas.

Listen

Listen without thinking with your lens or bias switched on. Listen to the words selected and the order they are used. Try to really understand their intent, not your programming. It is quite difficult so you will likely need quite a bit of practice. So get on that. Practice listening.
