Thankful For Modern Medicine

It’s truly incredible. How you would have had to be treated in the best hospitals in the world just 100 years ago is vastly different from today.

There are so many things you would simply have died of back then, which are survive and thrive able today.

Thank your lucky stars that you live in this world today. There’s never been a better time to be alive.

The Problem With Perfect

Perfect is a nice dream but an unwittingly deceptive goal. Dreaming of how things could be created or adjusted helps to inspire improvements and move society forward.

However, pressing for 100% perfection can be a fools errand and create more harm than good.

Trying to reduce the number of criminals in prison down to zero is a nice idea, but not very realistic. Solving the root cause of criminal behaviour will be better than trying to rehabilitate offenders. But even if that were successful, you’ll still likely have a few people that end up on the wrong side of societal norms and laws.

Trying to get to zero criminals ever again, Zero racists, zero traffic accidents, zero exam failures, zero bullying, etc is a wonderful idea. Perfection!

But let’s be pragmatic. We can do a lot of great things with 97% good. And we should celebrate this incredible percentage and learn to deal with the 1%-3% in other ways, as positively as possible.

Winning Arguments

If you use words to fight daily battles or demonstrate your worth (lawyers, professors, journalists, etc), you may sometimes, but not always, be over confident in your ability to solve problems and find sustainable solutions.

Because you can battle and defend your position, or even change your opinion and take the opposite stance, by using words, you may not realise real things can’t so easily be fixed.

You want to engage with people, or hire or elect people, that have a practical streak and aren’t just theoretical focused.

Introduce Yourself

Step up and say hello. Shake hands, make eye contact, remember names and smile. It’s all rather simple. This is an open door to your future.

It costs nothing to say hello, be pleasant and be curious about someone’s life. Listen, learn and maybe make a new friend. Or simply enjoy that moment together.

Tough Conversations

Tough conversations are sometimes needed. You may try to avoid them, or wait too long to have one. However, once you’ve had it, usually you will feel much better.

Keep things cordial. Listen to the other side, perhaps you’ll get an insight you didn’t have before.

There will be tension and some challenges but remember to keep your cool, present the facts and don’t get drawn in by red herrings or unnecessary drama.

Hopefully this conversation will have cleared the air. If not, you may need one or two more. On the bright side, it should get easier.

Meet People

People can bring fun, shortcuts and opportunities. Of course they can bring hardship, drama and chaos too. But we like to look on the bright side. Besides, if the new person brings anything but great things to our life, then we exit them immediately, Stage left.

Great people, we keep. Then we involve them more in our life in various ways.

Build your life team. Make it a dream team.

Keep Moving

If you fall, get back up. Dust yourself off and carry on. Attend to any serious injury, bleeding, broken bones or bruised egos but do carry on.
