Go back and watch the basic stories and see how simple they were. It was a lovely era of beginning.

Be A Cheerleader For Your Spouse

If nothing else, this is a minimum. Always say the best things to them to support them. Encourage them. Help them shine.

Tell your kids about their greatness. Remind your friends of their better side and all the good things.

This is what our partners need and what we need in return.

The more you do this, the more you’ll realise what a wonderful person you have and how lucky you are. The opposite is also true.

It’s the same person but the more you appreciate them, the better they seem. And vice versa. Your choice.

After many years, the outcome of those choices can be very different.

Be Mindful Of Your Words

When you describe someone, be mindful how you do it. Is there room for interpretation or misunderstanding? What if some overheard you? Would they understand the context?

Sometimes people exaggerate in the moment. There are several reasons why. But check yourself before you announce someone has done one thing but you level them with a much harsher charge. That’s plain wrong.

Keep Calm And Knock Firmly

This is what you do when you are accidentally locked out of your own house. Long story, but after an extra long day of work, I arrived home in the wee hours and could not get in.

I was texting, calling, FaceTiming, WhatsApp-ing, knocking and a variety of other things. Note to self, doorbell needs new batteries!

After 30 minutes, with my patience waning, and the cold was locked into my hands and feet, and moving higher, I tried one last firm knocking beat on the front window…

With no discernible difference inside, I turned to go sleep in the car or find a hotel room for the remainder of the night. But then voilá. My lovely wife appeared at the door and sweetly let me in.

Keep calm and knock firmly saves the day!

What Are You For?

Knowing what you don’t like is easy. It’s a bit lazy and also garners some “cool” attribute. Bring a hater or “Can’t be Bothered” type gives off a too cool for school vibe. But does it get you anywhere?

It takes effort to think through what you are for, what you like or what you love. You also have to be able to accept the criticisms that will come your way for supporting something others don’t, don’t like or demean.

To become successful and a decent person, you should focus on what you are for.

Life can be exhausting. A good counter to all that is getting to bed early. It can be hard to do while others are still up and party’s are going on, but the benefits of early to bed and early to rise can be well worth while.

Listen to other points of view. Listen to how things work. Your parents are great to listen to. You can learn a lot of good and bad things from your parents.

Listen to advice. Consider it well before taking it.
