900 Reasons

To celebrate. To reflect. To be proud. To be satisfied. Why? Well, because this is my 900th consecutive daily blog post! ?

What started out several years ago as a personal challenge to write a daily blog post for 1 year – 365 days – has gone on a little longer.

I’ve had thousands of readers from 80 countries now. I’ve gotten so used to doing a daily blog, long or short, that it really is a habit that took discipline to get started.

So, happy 900th!! I hope you’ve enjoyed the posts, they’ve made you think and you feel like a better person for stretching your mind in different directions.

Thank you for reading and sharing. Let’s keep going! Maybe I’ll reach 1,100 or even 11,000. What topics would you like me to write more about? DM on Instagram or LinkedIn.

If you enjoy reading positive and useful content, then check out my book, Achieve Anything. It’s currently £0.75 for the ebook and the Hard cover is 44% off! It’s cheaper than the paperback at the moment. And if you like audio, my audiobook should be online by the end of the week. Enjoy!!

Value Sorting

When you make decisions, you do so by sorting your values in a hierarchy. Sometimes that is why we find it hard to make a decision. If two important values are equally important we find it difficult to choose one over the other.

The value you put at the top of the hierarchy at any given time is your guiding factor in that moment. You can switch the top value depending on the subject at hand.

If winning is your core value, then anything else can be subordinated to that value. That is where cheating can enter the picture. However, it might not, if the persons value for fair play is higher than their desire to win.

So you can read someone’s value chart by the decisions they make. You can only read their value chart based on their current awareness though. If they haven’t become aware of the other values that could supersede or challenge their top one, then we can only see what they are doing with their current knowledge, self-awareness and personal bias.

Try to not project your story of them onto their value chart. You could say that a person is doing something for x or y reason. You really have no idea. But you can see what seems to be their highest value and get some insight into their intent. Have fun with this observational activity.

Define Words First

If you’re planning something or having a chat, debate or discussion, it’s useful to define the key words first.

Pants in the UK are underwear in Canada. This is a minor but funny one.

When someone says they’ll call you first thing tomorrow, if it’s important, it’s a good idea to confirm an actual time.

One word getting a lot of air time at the moment is the word ban.

In a car context, if I drove on a road with a speed limit, you would not say cars were banned on this road. Yes, there is some regulation of the cars, but most people would not say cars are banned on that road.

If there were construction crews on the road ahead, and traffic was being regulated differently than some other nearby roads, most people would not say cars were banned on this road. They would recognise the different driving conditions, but they would not usually claim that they’ve been banned from that road.

Bear this in mind while consuming news and social media over the days and weeks ahead. Understand what the differences are, especially the limits, as differing limits are not the same as a ban.

Only Good Thoughts #OGT

Train your brain, like you would a muscle. Teach it to focus on the good side of everything.

Don’t become delusional. Accept that there will be tough moments and bad things. And you can cry and scream and yell. But after a few minutes, pick yourself back up, regain your composure, focus on the good that will be coming, and carry on.

You don’t have to do this. You can wallow in self pity and proclaim that everything is rubbish. You can remain with a cloud over your head for hours, days, weeks or even years. If that is how you want to enjoy this one life we get to live, well that is your prerogative. But I’ll probably stay clear of you. I don’t need you raining on my parade.

It can be hard at first to keep only good thoughts. Sometimes you’re so deep in the dirt, you can’t find anything good. But like any other training, education, or developing skill set, it requires some work and effort.

Let the bad thoughts pass through your head. Thanks for stopping by. So long. Take care. Then, find things to feel good about. Start with simple things like, ’I woke up this morning!’ or ‘look, food in the house!’. Then be grateful for the client phone call you received. Or you can appreciate the money in your bank account. It may not be as much as you would love to have, but there is some there. Be grateful.

Really try to get to Only Good Thoughts. Of all the skills you could develop, doesn’t this one sound like a great one!?

Following Through Feels Great!

When you say you are going to do something and you do it, especially when it is long, tiresome and hard work, your spirit can soar, if you let it.

Allow yourself the great feeling of having accomplished the tasks on your to do list that day. Remind yourself of the challenges you overcame, both mental and physical. Then be proud, stand up straight, be confident and be pleased with yourself. It’s easy to give up when the going gets tough. But the emotional and mental reward for pushing through and achieving your goals is such a better feeling.

So keep your powerful why in your mind all day while you push and overcome the challenges. Remind yourself you can do this and you will. Stay the course. Keep your commitments to yourself. If you do, you’ll build a better, happier and more prosperous you.

You Don’t Really Want It.

If you won’t sacrifice or put in the full effort required to get the results you want, then you have a wish, not a goal. You hope someone will come do it for you. You’re not intent on success. You want someone to give you what you want with no effort required on your part.

I can always tell who is fully committed to their desired results. They create a plan, put in the work, review their progress daily and get the results they were after.

Everyone else? They delude themselves with excuses, reasons and stories. Results don’t lie.

Gathering Momentum

In life, when you plant enough seeds, you are bound to gather some momentum come harvest time.

Think of times in your life where you networked, wrote letters, made calls and passed leaflets through letterboxes. You were trying to get the attention of someone, anyone.

Then someone returned your call. You were pleasant and effective. Word started to spread. More people were attracted to your message, product or service. And your good manners.

This is how every little business started and how all smaller businesses grew into larger ones. Some call it the Law of Attraction. Others say it is the result of sowing then reaping. Still others might conclude it is the hand of god.

Whatever you attribute it to, remember to prepare for, and take benefit from, gathering momentum when you do find it in your life.

Celebrate The Royalty

I received great news on Tuesday! I received my first ever royalty payment. My book, Achieve Anything, has sold more copies than I imagined at this point! Copies have been purchased in 24 countries, across six continents, around the world.

It was really exciting to have another income stream working. But even more exciting was the thought that so many people have been interested in buying the book and changing their lives. And quite a few people have left great, gold-star reviews or reached out to me with kind words or related how much it has been helping them. That’s priceless.

So I’ve been celebrating the royalty payment today and what it signifies. Hopefully I can help or inspire far more people in the weeks and months to come.

Thank you to all of you who have bought the book, got in touch, written a review, recommended it to a friend, family member or colleague or are simply using the content to improve your own lives and therefore the lives of others too. You are awesome. I’m cheering for you and want you to win!!!

Sunrise or Sunset?

Which do you prefer? Is it the energy, optimism and excitement of a dawning new day? Or would you rather the calming, closing curtain as the sun sets and you appreciate the day you had?

The Stories You Tell Yourself

Your stories and opinions don’t matter much to most other people. But they are made up of your biases, experiences and desired outcomes. Listen carefully to the words you choose and what they really mean.

The stories you tell are easily dismissed by others and rarely impact them. The real impact is on you and how you get on in the world. Make sure the stories are empowering not complaining.
