Be On Time

It shows self respect, that you’re organised, and that you respect the other person’s request and their time.

And by being on time, that means show up 5-10 minutes early. Then there is no argument about whether you were on time or not.

It also indicates that you think that the person is importance and that you value their time in your life.

Of course the opposite to all of these is also true.

Be on time.

Be Willing To Work

Everyone wants an easy route to success. Sit on the beach, drink Mai-Tai’s and let the wins pile up.

That would be great!

It’s not really realistic though. I suppose a few people could organise their situation to have this happen. Though I doubt it would work for most people.

Recall music or sports managers or agents that have ripped off people. You can outsource work, but you had better be very tightly managing the outsource activity. Trust but verify – daily! At worst you could do it weekly. But do not leave it longer than that.

Be Forthright

Answer the question asked. Be clear in your desires and requests. Simplify.

Train your brain for efficiency. If your position embarrasses you, change your positions, don’t shrink or avoid the conversation.

Decide To Be In Awe

Decide to be in awe of the world around us. As I look around the room, I am grateful for all of the people who conceived of all the products I can see.

In addition, I am grateful for all of the people, I will never know or meet, who financed these products through R&D and manufacture. And finally, I’m grateful to all of the people who worked in the companies, the supply chains, and the delivery units, that enabled these products to surround me in this room.

Sure, I went out and bought these items, so the effort doesn’t seem that incredible. However, the whole idea of each one of these products began years before I decided it was a product I needed and was willing to spend my hard earned money on.

Just think about all the sourcing of the raw materials that went into a plug, a lamp, a painting, a wood carving, a table, a ceiling fan, bedsheets, and a pen.

When you stop and think about all of this, it is really hard not to be in awe of the world we live in.

Be Precise

The more precise you are with words, timing and goals, the more likely you will get what you want.

When you are vague or generalise, you give up the precision and get what you get. People that can envision and clearly articulate a precise plan or concept, take control of the process and increase the likelihood of getting their desired outcome.

Do you order a drink (super vague), coffee (general), or a moca latte to go with 1 cube of sugar and a dash of whipped cream on top? If you wanted the latter but ordered the former and received a small mug of orangina with a cube of ice, would you be delighted? Probably not.

So start being more specific going forward from right now. Get very precise with your time, words, and goals and see how quickly your whole life starts to improve!

It takes some effort but it’s worth it.
