Some are good and some are bad. Some can be helpful to have and others are less so. As per usual, it depends.
What keeps you from doing the thing you really want to do? Or even from what you need to do?
If you had only 6 more months on planet Earth, what would you focus on? What distractions would you let fall by the wayside?
Who would you call? Visit? What would be most important to you? What would bring you joy?
There are many things to distract us from our most important goals. A distraction could be a movie, the news, a family matter, a crossword puzzle or a book.
Write down the things you want the most and don’t let these distractions impede your progress. You control your time. Don’t waste it. Use it efficiently and effectively.
Be aware of what you highlight and focus on. Just because you shine your light on one spot, doesn’t mean the other million spots you could have highlighted don’t exist. They do.
When people distract you with their preferred stories, you don’t get to work on your life story. Turned down the noise or even turn it off. You don’t need the media, your friends, colleagues, social media and entertainment to distract you.
Shine your light on your work. Stay focused. Get it done. Then take a well deserved break. Before long, get back at it. Everything else is noise distracting you from your dream life.
Gosh it can be hard to get clear and focused sometimes. There are so many interesting things in life. You need to focus on the thing that brings you closer to your goal though.
You need to be clear where you are heading. Then do only those things that get you there. Remove all the extraneous distractions. Once you do this, you will move forward so much quicker.
This week I am reminding myself of the things I need to reduce or stop. There are many things not on the path to my top goals. Some are fun or enjoyable though. Which make them more difficult for me to remove from my day.
However, in order to win and achieve the goal, I need re-focus and commit.
Is there anything you have been aiming for but not really putting the required time or focus into getting it done? Are there too many emails, requests, unnecessary things, keeping you away from the achievement you want most?
This was coming, but today’s Quote Of The Day Show podcast episode really underlined this idea for me today.
Sometimes the Knowing-Doing Gap comes in, sits down and wedges itself between you and your goals. Get back to doing what you know you are supposed to do.
Focus on the thing.
Hello 2021!! I can see you over there in the corner. Don’t be shy. It’s time to start making a name for yourself. Plans change as life goes on so you need to quickly prepare for alternatives.
It’s almost inevitable that people start thinking about next year in December. We start to think about a fresh new year with a clean slate. It will be full of promise, excitement and opportunity. New goals and objectives with ambitions to achieve anything we can dream of.
2020 wasn’t quite the year many had expected. Some people did very well and some did not. Some people had to change their plans for schooling, work, travel arrangements, family visits and all manner of things.
Interruptions occur in life as do distractions. We need to practice being nimble and flexible. Rolling with the punches is a good skill to have. Developing different talents, income, career paths and relationships can be helpful.
Many things you thought you would do in 2020 might have been postponed until 2021. Hopefully that will now work out. However, if things don’t go as you expect, you will need to make other arrangements.
With just under two weeks to go until the new year, you best get your goals and targets locked in for 2021, 2026 and 2031.
However, prepare for alternative options, because, plans change.
