Do. Review. Continue.

Success can be this continuous loop of doing things, reviewing where they got to and then continuing with them into the next step or stage.

That’s it.

For greater success, do more reviewing. This is what really makes the difference and shifts the needle.

We can usually get things moving due to excitement, drive or sheer enthusiasm. But then things seem to stall a little.

Anyone trying to achieve their New Year’s resolutions will recognise this as week 2 or 3 of January. This is where enthusiasm and excitement are fading. Some things are going well but without continuous review, the weeks blend into one another.

Then you might think you’re doing better or worse than you are. By continually reviewing where you are at, you can be clear on how well things are actually going. Much better that, than drifting along blissfully unaware and not making the changes you wanted.

Review And Track

If you have any goals (and you should have several!), you must remember to review and track your progress against your ambitious timeline.

If you don’t review and track, and keep to a tight and specific timeline, you greatly decrease your chances of success. If you’re honest with yourself, you know this is true.

People won’t review and track because they get lazy, or scared they aren’t making progress, or they think they’re doing great, so why bother.

There steps are a critical element in achieving anything you want in life.

If you want a deeper dive on review and tracking, or goal getting in general, it’s all simply laid out in my bestselling book, Achieve Anything (on Amazon, Audible, and other online book retailers around the globe). https://scottsbook.com/

Review Often

When was the last time you took a look at your goals, their timing and how well your tracking against them?

Some things should be reviewed daily. Other items would be fine on a weekly basis. Much bigger picture items can be reviewed on a monthly basis and even annually. Although make sure all the smaller milestones for these big goals are reviewed more frequently.

Goals are wonderful things to have but you really do need to be kept accountable with them or you’ll miss the outcome, the timing or both.

Review Your Progress

At least once each week, you need to review your progress. You need to understand if you are getting the results you were after and if you are putting in the effort you said you would, should or needed to.

This is your brutal facts of reality moment.

No excuses. No reasons. Black and white. Yes or no. If you were supposed to go to the gym 3x in the last 5 days, did you? Yes or no? If yes, well done! If no, what will you do differently this week (Monday am to Sunday pm)? Perhaps go to the gym even earlier so other things don’t get in the way.

If you were supposed to read 10 pages of a book every night in the last 5 days, did you? Yes or no? If yes, congratulations! If no, what do you need to do differently on each of the next 7 days to ensure it happens consistently? Read when you wake up? Go to bed 30 minutes earlier and read then?

Whatever your goals are, Review your progress every week, ideally on the same day at the same time. Sunday evening is a good time for this. Make it part of your seven day success cycle as outlined in my book.

Review 2024 & Plan 2025

If you haven’t already, get a notebook or even a piece of paper and do this today. Take 20 minutes and list out highlights of 2024, including what inspired you, what you achieved and what you loved. Set a timer for 20 minutes and write as fast as you can. You can also include challenges you overcame. Keep each idea short like a bullet point.

Then set your timer for another 20 minutes and try to write out up to 50 things you want to do, have, or be in 2025 and 2030. Write fast using the list you just made as an inspiring guide. Also use your most exciting ideas and imagination.

With this list of 50 things, decide which you want to achieve in 2025 and which might take longer like 2026 or 2030. Put the year you want to achieve the goal next to the goal itself.

Then gather up all the 2025 goals and decide which 5 are most important to you. With these five, write some greater detail around what the goal will look like once it is achieved.

Also write a list of next steps you will need to take to get closer to that goal.

Now put two dates next to each step so you know when you have to start and complete that step.

Now go work your plan!

Review Your Work

When completing a task, review your work. You are taught this early in school. They say to write your answers in a test and then go back over it and make sure you’re happy with your answers.

Double check calculations and wording. This goes for presentations and all sorts of things.

It’s also very aligned with Step 6 in my book, Achieve Anything. For more details, and some great tips, check it out here http://www.scottgregory.co.uk

Take A Sense Check

A few times a year it is good to take a sense check and see if you are being the best you can be in your different relationships.

Are you being patient enough? Are you giving anyone too much leeway? Have you got the right boundaries in place to protect your values and precious time?

Could you be more grateful for the people in your life and what they do for you? How could you show your appreciation more?

Sometimes it is just a little adjustment in your tone, temper or tempo. It can make a world of difference and set you on a whole new course for your relationship.

It may not be that easy but, with practice and review, you will get better and your life will benefit greatly from this pit stop.

Review Your Progress

‘Are we there yet?’ Clearly wanting to know how far from the finish we are is a natural desire. ?

If you’ve ever had a long journey with kids in the car, you’ll know the phrase I am referring to. But adults want to know to. They check maps, or their satnav, to see if they are ‘making good time’ and where the next rest station is.

Employers want to see ‘progress reports.’ Athletes need to track their gains and PBs. We all want to be a little better or further along with something at sometime in our lives.

It’s easier to review your progress if you have a plan to track against. Then you can course-correct if need be because you’ll know when you are a little off course. Tracking your progress allows you to see your plan unfold. And, spoiler alert, you’ll also know when to celebrate as you reach milestones.

This may be the most skipped step in the 7 step process. People are averse to tracking and reviewing. There are a variety of reasons for this. But the impact is that they usually make less progress. Often this occurs because they don’t know the progress exists so they give up too early and throw out the plan. If only they doubled down their discipline and tracked their progress and reviewed their plan daily. There would be a lot more achievements in this world!!

Review is step six in my forthcoming book – Achieve Anything – The 7 Simple Steps to Shift from Uncomfortable to Unstoppable. Be sure you include a daily review element to your plan to greatly increase your chance of success. Review your progress!

PS. On Tuesday, I received the Advance Copy of the paperback!!! Looking great! Amazing to have it in my hands. A couple of tiny tweaks is all it needs. Hopefully the hardback will look equally fantastic when I receive it later this week!
