Remember To Stop

Too often things get taken too far. You can see this in so many different circumstances.

Often it is far better to enjoy the win and be content, then to seek more than you had originally wanted.

Here are some examples:

Having a few more snacks or cakes than you should. Eventually you’ve put on 3 stone.

Having a few too many drinks and waking up half way through the next day with a cracking hangover.

Putting a few little things on a credit card knowing you can’t pay off the balance. Then a few more. Soon you’re paying £1,000s in interest, yet lost interest in whatever you’re paying for.

Getting a club together to defend yourselves, like NATO, can sound like a good idea. Then after feeling quite secure, you keep adding more and more members. You feel more secure and confident but others may become more concerned and defensive.

There are many, many other examples from women’s rights (is equal enough?), unions (group v individual) and tech (how far is too far, like kissing a robot?), to buying shoes (Ms Marcos), and political coverups (it always starts small and then like a black hole, begins to engulf everything).

The key is to moderate and balance while checking the details frequently so matters don’t get out of control.

Review frequently and track progress. Don’t push things too far or you can do some damage (Like running further than you should). There is always pain after things are pushed too far. Better to stop things a little earlier than build up to a devastating situation.

Know When To Stop

Often times things start out well. Maybe it’s a gentle joke, a little teasing, spending on a few little things or picking at a dish of food. However, these things can go too far.

You know what you’re doing too much of, whether it’s binge watching tv, spending, eating, drinking, teasing, complaining, harassing or staying up too late.

A little bit and occasionally is fine. Moderation in everything as they say. But with that, you need to learn when to stop. And then stop.

Stop And Think

How often do we actually do this? Often we are racing around from one thing to the next, and we do not take any time to stop and think.

We react to so much in life. We would do ourselves a favour by taking time out for five minutes or five days, to stop and consider things more.

Decide where you want to be in 10 or 20 years, not 10 minutes or 10 months. You will then make better decisions. Be clear. Be determined. Focus. And soldier on.

Don’t Stop

See your goal for 2023. What progress will you have made by the end of week two? Even if it’s just a little, don’t stop!

Know When To Stop Digging

Sometimes we make a mistake. Don’t be the person that doubles down on their error. Don’t escalate things out of control. You don’t need to prove you’re right, especially by might. It’s better to do the right thing for the greater good.

Put the shovel down. Stop digging a deeper hole.

Stop Doubting Yourself

You’ll do better if you just do and not doubt you.
What is the point in doubting yourself? Just try hard, roll the dice and let the chips fall where they may.

You’ll do as well as you do. You’ll probably do better if you put some prep into it and have positive thoughts around it. You should try. And feel good for trying at all.

If it is really important to you, you’ll get better and try again. No one will know or remember the pain or embarrassment you felt in trying. The history books and long memories will only remember that you made the attempt. Make it a good shot.

Stop doubting yourself.

Stop And Think

When did you last do this? It can change your life if you do it. Many people are so busy getting through life, they don’t stop and think.

Take 15 minutes later this evening and consider some things. If you are really brave, get a pen and some paper and write out your thoughts. I say brave because it is rarely comfortable confronting the brutal facts of reality.

Now I suggest you write out some of the great highlights of your life first. You may be able to note down 12 years of schooling or an advanced degree. Perhaps you’ve travelled or have had an illness you’ve had to overcome. Maybe you donated some money to a friend that was doing some fundraising. You may also have maintained a successful relationship, built a career, bought a house, raised good children or simply made it through life to here.

Well congratulations! There are so many skills you have and so many more you could acquire. You are far better and more impressive than you give yourself credit for. And you can do so much more than you even begin to imagine.

Recall all those times you got the thing you wanted. You bought the car, went to the concert, got the job or went out on that date. When you really wanted something, you went after it. You got it or something similar.

What else do you really want? How serious are you about it?

Stop and think. You can achieve anything.

Now, go make it happen.
