You Can’t Stop The Story
You hear a few details about a scenario. Maybe you hear it on the radio, see them in the paper or watch a segment on tv. Maybe it’s something you heard in a friend group or from your family.
Then, you fill in the blanks. Then, quickly, you make a judgement. And then you’ve closed that open loop. You have decided the answers to all those uncertain questions in your mind. Job done. Your brain can relax and work on other things.
It is so easy. Many people do this every day. When they hear about a friend in trouble, career changes, health, relationships, finances, companies struggling, or even death, they fill in all the blanks with various ideas from their mind.
Think about this today and how many times you fill in the blanks on any situation.
Then remember that most people are doing the same thing with you. And as you know, once their internal gavel falls, there is little chance of any reversal, even with ample evidence, because you can’t stop the story.
Your Life Story
You are the star of your life. Start acting like it. You are also the screenwriter. So start writing in great parts, add a superb supporting cast, wonderful adventures and a few challenges for balance.
Start creating the life story you want to read about or watch on the big screen. Great books and movies can take years to imagine, write out, edit, publish, produce and get out to the world.
Make Up A Story
You do this anyway. Most people do. Something happens and then we decide why it happened. We make up a story that suits our belief system.
This always happens to me. Rich people are greedy. They are a real jerk.
Those are just some of the many common phrases people use to help fill in the blanks of the story. Some of the words, phrases and sentences we use are learned from others. However, sometimes they come from our inner critic.
Notice when you do this. Not only when you add more to your own stories about you or others, but also when other people do it. Get curious about word selection and order.
Become aware of how people around you speak. If you are not feeling empowered by their words, you might want to reduce your exposure to them. Distance yourself, or become just like them.
As for your inner commentator, give them a name and then tell them to go have a nap. You don’t need some random voice in your head berating you or creating drama by adding inaccurate comments to stories.
Create powerful stories in the place of the less helpful ones. Use ‘I am’ statements and let your spirit soar. Be delighted by the stories you hear and tell. If they are going to be fabricated anyway, make them empowering.
Go ahead, make up a story.
The Story Of My Life
What do you say about yourself? How do you describe your life in your bio? Make sure the ideas support the best you. The story of my life has got to be put in the best light. Not just for others, but for me! I need to see how well I have done from where I began.
Once you have understood what your story is, you may want to go about improving on it. I don’t mean with just some creative licence though. I mean get a plan together and work towards exciting goals. Write a biography for your life now. Keep it to four sentences or shorter.
Now write a biography of your life in five years from now. What other skills will you have? What exciting achievements will you have accomplished? Now, in order to go from here to there, you will need to make some changes.
You will need to give up the story of your life (the one you have) to create the story of your life (the one you want).
Like old clothes, you need to get rid of them occasionally. Move on from the story of your life. Freshen it up and get ready for new adventures. Focus on the new story you are creating. Visualise. Build it and it will come.
Keep making improvements. That is the story of my life.
