Try New Things
Try new things if only once a week or once per month. Maybe you could work up to new things daily after awhile.
New things can be good for the mind and soul.
Try Different Angles
When you want something, try different angles to make it work out. There might only be one way to do something but that is rarely the case. You may have to use your imagination and get creative in what you do.
For example, if you want to meet someone in an office setting and you can’t reach them on their direct line, try calling the receptionist. Or call their secretary. Alternatively you could trying calling their unit head, office manager, colleague or even CEO.
If calling isn’t working, try sending an email, a letter in the post, use LinkedIn or other social media accounts, or go to their office. There are many ways to make things happen. Sometimes you need to try several different options before you find success. If you keep trying different avenues, options, timing and tones, you greatly increase your probability of success.
So be sure to try different angles.
Try Something Different
Pygmalion has a soft spot in my heart. Probably since I read the play in my teens after finding my Mom’s Secondary School copy in the house.
So a few weeks ago I saw that a production was playing at a local theatre in Hampton Hill and I booked tickets for the family.
It was a Wednesday night and finished late but I wanted to take my wife and kids to it. So that’s what happened.
Despite some initial reluctance, it all went well. It was a very enjoyable performance!
It’s on for a few more nights. Get tickets here. https://www.hamptonhilltheatre.org.uk/production/pygmalion
The theme relates very well to my #1 bestselling book Achieve Anything. Perhaps that’s another reason why I like it!
Try something different. Your world might shift.
Try Thinking
Seriously. Actually thinking. Not remembering. Not reacting. Try thinking about your thoughts, beliefs and values. Think about your philosophical and political views. You should even think about your habits.
What habits do you have? Why do you have them? What did you have for breakfast this morning? Why?
When someone engages with you, really think about what they are saying and why they might be saying it. Become more curious. Get off auto-pilot. It’s harder than you think at first, if you’re really trying. But it does get easier. Try thinking.
Think is the first step of seven in my upcoming book, Achieve Anything. I’m happy to say the book was sent to the printers earlier this week and pre-ordering should be starting soon. Stay tuned!
You Win just Trying
Trying, practicing and training all require effort. It is these efforts that turn you into a winner; a person who wins. You won’t always have a bestseller, blockbuster or championship trophy but you will have developed the discipline, focus and confidence to try it again.
You win as a person each time you put effort in and try. Love the process.
Try Again!
Try Something Challenging
Try Something New Today
It is easy to fall into a routine. Habits develop and then they are hard to shake. So try something new today. It could improve your life.
It is surprising how quickly your life can change. This could be from a comment, an interaction, an event or a thought. But in that split second your life begins down a whole new path.
This is happening to us with great frequency already. Though generally our decisions and thoughts remain in a fairly regular range. This range is bordered due to our habits and our comfort zone.
It feels good in that range as we know what to expect. There are few surprises here. We don’t need to think too much. And, for the most part, it makes us feel good. Even if we don’t like it, the familiarity can be comforting.
Though a great way to put some excitement into your life is by doing something different. Especially something that might lead to a more powerful or more supportive habit.
You can expand your comfort zone, build on your experience and grow your confidence all at once.
Surprisingly, once you do it once, you might do it again. Then again. Then it soon becomes a habit and changes your life.
Try something new today. One day, you’ll be glad you did.
Addressing Your Bias
Most people have a bias. Yes, even you. Maybe for some things, you might remain neutral. But what if I say, “Trump”? Addressing your bias, whenever you have one, is a useful endeavour.
“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.”
Epictetus
How you react to something reveals your bias. And the more you practice looking for the bias in others, the more you will see it. The bias will come through in body language and the words people use.
As I mentioned in my previous post about fire, everything is neutral until you give it energy in one direction or another. Be careful what you give your energy to.
If you are serious about understanding where your biased thoughts are, try accessing a different information source for one week.
For example. if you usually source from the Guardian or CNN, try Fox News and vice versa. If you are more conservative and pro-Trump, you may be watching Candace Owens or the Hodge Twins. This would mean you would switch with those more left leaning that may be reading The Atlantic or The Washington Post.
I have found YouTube quite interesting in this challenge. It’s algorithm exposes you to things that you wouldn’t normally see if you usually go direct to apps.
Addressing your bias can be a fun and enlightening experience.
