Spending time with elderly people can give you a very different perspective than most people’s lives.
You can see into history, hear stories, realise what is important and understand the challenges and benefits of ageing.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve spent a lot of time in the company of people in their 70’s, 80’s and even into the 100’s!
Some are doing better than others in terms of body and mind, but they are all working their way through their life.
Some are more inspiring, and some will bring tears to your eyes, and it is this emotional stretch that is also so valuable. Learning how to navigate tough conversations and situations is a great skill to have.
These interactions will help you feel the depths of humanity.
Spend some time with grandparents, older parents or just volunteer for a few hours at a care home. The benefits to both sides will be well worth it.
