That’s it.

For greater success, do more reviewing. This is what really makes the difference and shifts the needle.

We can usually get things moving due to excitement, drive or sheer enthusiasm. But then things seem to stall a little.

Anyone trying to achieve their New Year’s resolutions will recognise this as week 2 or 3 of January. This is where enthusiasm and excitement are fading. Some things are going well but without continuous review, the weeks blend into one another.

Then you might think you’re doing better or worse than you are. By continually reviewing where you are at, you can be clear on how well things are actually going. Much better that, than drifting along blissfully unaware and not making the changes you wanted.

The Best Time to Be Alive. Ever.

What an incredible time to be alive. The basic living in most westernised countries is better than even kings and queens had prior to the 20th century.

Fresh water. Peace. Food variety and abundance. Smartphones and all they can do and access. Healthcare and the ability to cure and postpone death. Travel ease with cars, Ubers, airplanes and soon spaceships. Flushing toilets. Fridges and freezers.

Social mobility is easier than ever. The playing field is the most even it has ever been. It will never be perfect and sometimes you’re going to have speed bumps, but, oh my. This is soo much better than even the 18th century, never mind the sixth century and all of the others.

Accountability

If you’re looking for someone or something to blame, start by looking in the mirror. You probably had something to do with it.

The sooner you can recognise that you often create the environment or situation that you’re complaining about, the sooner you can adjust your behaviour or attitude and improve the whole situation.

No need to act like an entitled, perfect, victim. You do things that irritate people and situations. Own up to it and make some basic adjustments.

Everyone can breathe easier after this and they will all get along much better going forward.

Routine

If your new goals can help you develop a solid daily routine, you’ll increase your chances of reaching your goals.

Set up your environment to win. Plan and schedule with calendars and alarms. Prepare your tools and resources the day before. It sounds so simple. It is so simple.

Put some effort in and you will reach beyond the stars!

Push Yourself

Don’t let yourself off easy. Push yourself to reach your stated goals. Get up an hour earlier. Say no to the night of fun and stay in and plan your week and save your money.

Do the right thing. Not the most pleasurable immediate thing. Pleasure doesn’t mean you’ll be happy. And often pleasure comes with some corresponding pain – drinking with hangover, speeding with ticket, entertainment with loss of purpose.

Make yourself the best person you could imagine. Push yourself past the pain, the sacrifice, the complaining and the challenges. Become Unstoppable.

Tell Yourself The Truth

You need to assess the brutal facts of reality or you’ll find yourself stuck in Groundhog Day for years.

Be honest with yourself. Be fair with yourself too. If you are super tough on yourself, you will not feel very good about it. You are not trying to destroy yourself or your self confidence. But you need to be objective, realistic and fair in order to properly assess things. Only once you know where you are, can you draw the map to where you want to get to.

Who doesn’t like a little surprise that is good? It is awesome. A parking spot close to the door. Drinks on the house. A lottery win.

From small and more frequent to large and rare, it is always so nice to receive some goodness, especially when it’s a surprise.
