Shorthand Communication Is Rarely Good
“What does Iran want” is a headline in one of the UK’s top newspapers. The shorthand generalisation isn’t helpful but it’s shorter and catchier than, “What does Iran’s current leader want?”
When we say Iran we aren’t referring to all 88 million people. I imagine, like anywhere, there is a variety of viewpoints on most things. The leader might want something different to his leadership team, pro western citizens, secular or Sunni followers and from those wanting to conquer than go in peace.
So be careful when you hear shorthand or generalisations and think what it might really be like if you dig into the details.
Older Experience And Younger Opportunity
The older I get, the more I can see the potential in people, especially the youth, or those younger than me at least. They have time on their side. If they use their time wisely, they can achieve anything. They just need to dream big enough and get to work.
The To-Do List
There is always something on the to-do list. It might be work or pleasure, rest or play, but there will be something on the list. You will usually be able to think of something that needs to be done, either for you, your kids, parents or friends.
Remember, even when you stop, drop and lay in the ground, there will be things to be done. They’ll either be unnecessary items or someone else will pick up the task and put it on their to-do list.
Prepare
The more prepared you can be, the more likely you will be to succeed. Spend time preparing for your day, week and year. The benefits of this action will be significant.
Tidy And Organise
This is amazingly cathartic. Getting rid of things that no longer bring you joy or are needed in any way can lift a weight off your shoulders. Recycling old papers, bank statements, messages and the like, helps keep surfaces cleaner and files thinner. This makes it easier to find the important things.
Take a day or two and rid yourself of any mountains you have. Then do it daily and again weekly. It’s like mowing your lawn or showering, it’s often better with greater frequency, not less.
Then when you have less stuff, it’s easier to organise those papers, files, toys, gadgets or general items. Be brutal with this concept. Refuse to let any random item have space in your life. Bin it, recycle, give away or cherish, but with a specific place of its own. Life will get better.
Consider Your Options
Look at where you want to go. Think about the options to get there. Then read an article, watch a YouTube video, listen to a podcast and ask a few people for other options. Then calmly consider your options.
At that point you can make your informed decision.
Complete The Task
You probably don’t need more info. Just get your head straight and finish the job. If it needs to get done, take action and do it. Rest only once you can say with 100% certainty that you’ve finished the job.
Rest
Do this anywhere you can, when you need to. It’s a very important part of remaining resilient and making good decisions.
Find Hope And Hold On
Hope is a very powerful force. It can sustain people or keep them going through very difficult times. Feeling that there is something better ahead can lift your spirits and provide the mental resilience one needs to get through tough times.
Find hope and hold on. Sometimes that is all we have. Or need.
