De-Risk

It’s always a good plan to de-risk your life, career, investments, relationships and many other things.

Even when you lean a ladder against the wall, it is best to de-risk the climbing of said ladder by having it stable on the ground, at a good angle to the wall, and ideally someone at the base holding it.

All these things might seem like overkill until that one time the wind comes up quickly, or you get sun in your eyes and lose balance a little, or a random dog chasing a cat hits the ladder.

Expect the unexpected.

Be safe rather than sorry.

A stitch in time, saves nine.

Lots of great sayings reminding everyone to de-risk early even if it does not seem necessary. Don’t be the example that people refer to about being too cavalier with your body, mind, finances, career, and relationships.

Be Willing To Work

Everyone wants an easy route to success. Sit on the beach, drink Mai-Tai’s and let the wins pile up.

That would be great!

It’s not really realistic though. I suppose a few people could organise their situation to have this happen. Though I doubt it would work for most people.

Recall music or sports managers or agents that have ripped off people. You can outsource work, but you had better be very tightly managing the outsource activity. Trust but verify – daily! At worst you could do it weekly. But do not leave it longer than that.

Go Places

Going places gets your body moving and mind working. These two concepts help you fight off all kinds of disease and unhelpful conditions.

It’s also fun (usually). You get to see new sights, try new activities, and experience new ways.

Reminisce

This will make you feel good. You’ll feel younger, though maybe a little nostalgic too.

Do this on your own, with a friend or a group of old friends. You’ll be glad you did.

All Behaviour Makes Sense…

…With enough information.

This is a great line. I recently heard it while listening to Morgan Housel’s book, The Art of Spending Money. Brilliant book, as was his previous one.

If you zoom in on a behaviour, it might look irrational without the context. However, with enough information, usual patterns can appear, psychology and physiology can explain quite a few things and nature is more apparent.

If a behaviour you’ve witnessed doesn’t make sense to you, gather more information. Because all behaviour makes sense, with enough information.

Tidy

A tidy room, space, house, or office looks great and is very efficient. If you work at it daily for a few minutes, it becomes a great habit that pays dividends in calm and your ability to find what you’re looking for.

Keeping the mess, or weeds in a garden, at bay is important. Like anything in life, you’re either growing or shrinking, pruning back or being taken over by the the things growing around you.
